Garden Club Yard of the Month

The new flower beds abloom all around the S. Elm St house Nancy Morris bought 18 months ago made her colorful corner lot the logical choice for the Jefferson Garden Club’s July Yard of the Month award.

Perennials, including dozens of hosta varieties, make for easy maintenance on the street-side perimeters. Morris, a Master Gardener, plopped pots of deep-red geraniums amidst the greenery and on her front porch.

On the south and west sides of the house, she planted tall snapdragons, which are a riot with color this month, as well as other annuals and herbs.

Repurposed antiques–a bird cage, a manual water pump, various pots and pans and wash tubs, all crammed with colorful annuals, add whimsical touches to Morris’s lively take on gardening.

Every year, June through September, the Garden Club awards the “Yard of the Month” designation to local property owners whose efforts to beautify their space may inspire others to do the same and make Jefferson a pleasant place to live.
